Nutritional Assessment

We go to the doctor for our annual physical or we used to anyway.  It is no longer recommended to have a yearly physical with your medical professional unless you are on medications due to the rising costs of healthcare in the United States.  Twenty years ago it was recommended that we not only had a physical every year, but the basic lab tests for blood sugar, liver function, cholesterol and kidney function were taken.  Now only have a basic cholesterol panel is recommended on a yearly basis – just in case you might be a candidate for a cholesterol lower medications!

If you really want to take control over your health destiny and feel great again, a comprehensive nutritional assessment is a great start.  At your doctor’s office they will weigh you, take your blood pressure, poke around a bit but do they really look at your nails, your skin…your eyes?  Most likely not.  Years ago they did, but somehow that art of medicine has gotten lost because conventional medicine does not see or are not trained in how nutritional imbalances and deficiencies impact our health.

As nutritional science has evolved, we are now able to bring back some of those old traditions and tie that into the new science.  A functional nutritionist is trained to identify most nutritional deficiencies or imbalances from a nutrition physical and review of simple lab work.  That is what I do – I can ascertain nutritional imbalances and deficiencies just from a lab test for your liver function or say your kidney function.
